Construction:

Completing Your Home

Once your new home is finished, one of the final steps before taking possession is to conduct a walk-through of the property. While many builders offer a workmanship warranty on their homes, the final walkthrough is your last opportunity to detect flaws and have them corrected prior to purchase.

This will allow you and your builder to note any items in need or attention or repair before you actually move into your newly built home. The builder will complete a punch-list of these items and schedule someone, usually the subcontractors, to complete them.

Your local building inspector must then inspect the home and issue a certificate of occupancy before you move in.

If you already have your title and have the construction loan in hand, you are ready to move in.
